Student Placement Options

Placement Opportunities for Undergraduate Students in Social Work, Psychology, or Sociology

Seven Counties Services offers structured, applied learning opportunities for undergraduate students. Students are paired with a staff member at Seven Counties Services who serves as a mentor as well as a supervisor. To complete this fieldwork experience, you must be actively enrolled in a program at an accredited university.

Placement Opportunities for Graduate Students in Social Work, Counseling, or Art Therapy

Students who are required to complete a training experience under the supervision of a qualified professional can do so at Seven Counties Services. We employ multiple licensed practitioners, including social workers, mental health therapists, art therapists, and marriage and family therapists. All of these placements are part-time and require at least a two-semester commitment. To complete this fieldwork experience, you must be actively enrolled in a program at an accredited university.

Doctoral Internship for Clinical or Counseling Psychology Students

Seven Counties is part of the Jefferson County Internship Consortium (JCIC). This APA accredited and APPIC approved internship for doctoral students in professional psychology includes opportunities in a community mental health setting, a correctional facility, and a state hospital.

Applications for JCIC must be completed through APPIC. Requirements and deadlines are available in the APPIC Application for Psychology Internships (AAPI) Portal.

Nursing Clinicals

Consider Seven Counties Services for your behavioral health/community clinical rotation. We have four subspecialty areas:

Addictions

At Seven Counties Services, substance use is treated by a multidisciplinary team across different settings, including inpatient, residential, and outpatient.

Integrated Care

Our integrated care clinic addresses both physical and mental health needs. Services include screening/assessment, diagnosis, prevention, and treatment utilizing a shared individualized care plan.

Primary Care

Seven Counties Services provides primary medical screenings and assessments with care for chronic and acute health conditions.

Leadership

Improve your leadership skills (e.g., communicating, delegating, mentoring) while working alongside a director or manager on our nursing team.

FYI: Seven Counties Services will not be taking PMHNP placements outside of UofL until Fall 2027.

Student Placement Process

Our student placements are reserved for individuals who are actively enrolled in a college or university we have an established partnership with. Our higher education partners include:

All graduate level placements are 15-19 hours per week for at least 8 months.  

All undergraduate level placements are 10-16 hours per week for at least 3 months.  

Graduate level placements typically involve providing direct client services under the supervision of a clinical staff member (e.g., LCSW, LPCC, LPAT).  

Undergraduate level placements can vary from providing direct care to behind-the-scenes support. We do our best to match students with what they are looking for and the placements we have available.  

It all starts with an email to students@sevencounties.org. Be sure to include the following:  

  • Contact information (name, phone, email)   
  • University & program you are enrolled in  
  • Number of hours needed   
  • Start date   
  • End date  
  • Resume   

We have general timelines for making a request. However, we process student placement requests on a first-come, first-served basis. Thus, we encourage students to reach out sooner rather than later. Here are the timelines:  

  • Summer (May or June start): Jan 15th – March 15th  
  • Fall (August or September start): February 15th – May 15th  
  • Spring (January or February start): August 15th – October 15th
