A full-time training program for doctoral psychology students preparing for licensed professional mental health practice
The JCIC is a full-time training program for doctoral psychology students. The goal of JCIC is to prepare students for licensed professional mental health practice, particularly in public sectors. Students will have the opportunity to serve clients at Seven Counties Services (SCS), Central State Hospital (CSH), and the Kentucky Correctional Psychiatric Center (KCPC).
Gain hands-on experience across three premier facilities serving diverse populations
SCS is a private, non-profit community mental health center that serves individuals and families throughout Jefferson, Henry, Oldham, Trimble, Shelby, Spencer, and Bullitt counties. They strive to meet the needs of these communities through comprehensive care across a variety of settings. SCS provides a full range of mental and behavioral health services, including but not limited to, case management, inpatient and residential treatment for substance use, outpatient therapy, psychological testing, and homeless outreach.
CSH is a state owned and operated inpatient treatment facility for adults with severe mental illness. Their multidisciplinary team provides clinical services to individuals experiencing a wide range of psychiatric conditions and psychosocial stressors, including those with a dual diagnosis of severe mental illness and substance use disorder. Patients achieve stabilization through comprehensive care designed to meet their physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs. In addition to acute psychiatric treatment, CSH provides inpatient forensic competency evaluations for persons charged with misdemeanor offenses who may also have a mental illness.
KCPC is a psychiatric hospital located in a secure facility on the grounds of the Luther Luckett Correctional Complex. It is the only state designated forensic hospital in Kentucky. KCPC provides competency evaluations as well as criminal responsibility evaluations for individuals charged with felony offenses. As a licensed psychiatric hospital, KCPC also provides clinical services for patients who need competency restoration treatment. This includes a variety of evidence-based practices such as mindfulness interventions, expressive activities, and psycholegal interventions.
