Women’s Addiction Recovery Center: A Holistic Approach to Treatment
At the Women’s Addiction Recovery Center (WARC), we believe every woman deserves a chance to heal, grow, and pursue the life she envisions for herself. Led by a passionate team of professionals with lived experiences, our program takes a holistic approach to supporting women on their recovery journeys.
“I grew up in addiction recovery; I lived the life of it with family and friends, I married it, I divorced it, I gave birth to it and battled it with a lot of people my whole life,” Nichole Harrison, a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor at the WARC, shared. “I want to be a part of the solution to healing families that suffer from addiction.” This personal connection fuels Nichole’s work each day, as she strives to empower the women in her care.
A Whole-Person Approach to Addiction Recovery
The WARC doesn’t just treat substance use disorders, it addresses the underlying emotional, trauma, and relationship issues that often drive addiction. Allison Bryant, a Director in the Addictions Division and Unit Manager at WARC, explained, “We don’t just look at their substance use, but we go beyond that. We consider how some individuals might also be parents and struggling with parenting issues. Maybe some of them are struggling with trauma they’ve experienced. We really look at them as the whole person.”
This whole-person approach creates an environment of healing and growth. The center itself provides a calming, homelike setting for women to focus on their recovery, away from the stresses of everyday life. Clients engage in counseling, psychoeducational groups, recreational activities, and recovery meetings. These are all designed to help them develop the skills and support systems they need to sustain long-term sobriety.
Providing Ongoing Support
One area unique to the WARC both Allison and Nichole elaborated on is how the center inspires a community of hope. One way they do this is making sure women have ongoing support throughout services. “We have an alumni group here called the ARC (addiction recovery center) Angels,” shared Allison. “We have a process while they’re in treatment where they interview each other, and they celebrate each other and what they’ve learned about each other and then at the end of their stay here, they write a letter about their experience. After six months, they come back to share their stories in-person.”
Hearing from women who have walked the path of recovery inspires current clients and reminds them that change is possible. As Nichole passionately stated, “If you haven’t been here, you’re not done yet. You need to come here. We will love you back to life and we will support you every step of the way. We’re not afraid to take on anything, so come and see us.”
