Seven Counties Services Supports Mental Wellness During the July 4th Holiday
For many people, the Fourth of July is filled with cookouts, fireworks, and celebrations with family and friends. But for others, holidays can bring added stress and feelings of isolation. At Seven Counties Services, we want people to know that it’s okay if this time of year feels difficult. Mental health challenges don’t take a holiday, and support is always available.
The holiday can also increase anxiety, feelings of grief or loneliness, financial pressure, family tension, and sensory overload from crowds and loud noises. Fireworks can be distressing for veterans, trauma survivors, children, and individuals living with PTSD, autism, or sensory sensitivities.
Signs of Holiday Stress
Everyone experiences stress differently, but some common signs include:
• Increased irritability or anxiety
• Trouble sleeping
• Emotional exhaustion
• Changes in appetite or mood
• Withdrawing from social activities or loved ones
If you notice these feelings in yourself or someone you care about, it’s important to remember that support is available and you are not alone.
Tips for Protecting Your Mental Wellness
Here are a few simple ways to support your mental health during the holiday weekend:
Set Boundaries
It’s okay to say no to events or leave early if you feel overwhelmed.
Create a Calm Space
If fireworks or large gatherings are stressful, find a quiet environment where you feel safe and comfortable.
Stay Connected
Reach out to trusted friends, family members, or support networks if you’re struggling emotionally.
Practice Self-Care
Make time for rest, hydration, movement, and activities that help you feel grounded.
